What areas do you work in?

We are happy to work all over western Northern Virginia, although primarily in Western Loudoun County. We believe in serving fewer customers better. Also, we enjoy working with our neighbors in the community in which we live.

 

What types of work do you do?

Over the years we have done a large variety of work. Everything from repairs to complete homes including basements, kitchens, bathrooms large and small, additions of all types, whole house renovations, garages attached and detached, window replacements, decks, porches, pergolas, retaining walls, cottages and just about anything you you can think of. Currently we feel we are our best when the project has more than one of these projects within. The more complex the better. Kitchens could be called a specialty of ours because they are included in more projects then anything else. We have been working with and are next door to Cabinet Showplace here in Purcellville for years. That makes kitchens a natural and seamless fit. New homes can be appropriate for us when they are very custom and need some truly custom touches.

 

How long have you been in business?

Jeff founded Stonegate Construction Company in 1987. So we have been in business over 31 years. See the About Us page for more detailed information.

 

Do you use subcontractors to do the work?

Of course we use some subcontractors. We keep carpenters on staff for much of the finishes and carpentry work, however we do contract out some of the heavy framing. We also use subcontractors for most of the other phases of the construction. We believe it is better to be masters of our trade and not "jack of all trades".

 

How much of your business is referral and repeat business?

About 90%-95% of our business is referral and/or repeat. The rest comes from yard signs and minimal advertising.

 

Will you give me references?

We will be happy to give you references after our first meeting. We do not select certain customers but give you a mostly unfiltered list. The more people you talk to the better.

 

Are you bonded and insured?

We carry Worker's Compensation and General Liability insurance beyond the extent required by law. Bonding is not a standard practice for residential construction in Virginia. However, we can be bonded for a specific a project if the need arises.

 

Are you licensed?

We have a Virginia class A building contractor license. We also have business licenses in Loudoun County, Fairfax County and all of the towns in which we work.

 

What is Design/Build?

Design/Build has become the industry standard and the best way to insure that you get a well designed project and a good value. One stop shopping. We have Designers on staff to facilitate the process. Paying close attention to the budget, your needs and wants from the beginning insures that you ultimately get a project that will satisfy you for many years to come.

 

Can I use your services ala carte, for example design only?

The short answer is no we do not offer our services ala carte. There are several reasons why we do not. Our process, which has taken years to develop, has proven to be the best way of insuring happy customers. Our customers build a relationship with a team of professionals working for them from day one. We are looking for you and us to enjoy the process.The design portion is for “preliminary design”. All that means is that the final concept, aesthetic aspects, build ability issues are worked out and the plan has enough accurate information to give you a firm price. Construction and/or permit plans are included in and completed after we have given you a firm price and the construction contract is signed. With that said, signing a design contract with us does not mean you have to sign a construction contract with us.
